The key ingredients in Agera’s Evening Peptide complex are retinyl palmitate, prolifersyn and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, which Agera says help to repair the signs of ageing and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
     Retinyl palmitate boosts the blood-flow to the dermis, says Agera, increasing production of cells in the epidermis and smoothes the skin’s surface, Agera says. The retinol is encapsulated in minute time-release particles so it is more easily absorbed into the skin.
     Prolifersyn is the trademark for the Agera growth factor peptides, which Agera says increase collagen and elastin production, and enhance the thickness of the epidermal layer and the density of the dermis.

Covalent reticulated matrix (CRM) technology is being used by BioPolymer to limit the surface of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to make its range last longer.
     With hyaluronic acid products, hyaluronidase and hydroxyl radicals degrade the implants over time on the surface of the gel, says BioPolymer, which tackles this with butanedioldiglycidylether (BDDE), a cross-linking agent.
BDDE is one of the least toxic cross-linking agents, resulting in rare immune reactions to the product, says BioPolymer GmbH.
     The range comprises five products: CRM Soft is an injectable revitaliser, CRM Dur is an injectable implant, CRM Gel a visco elasticum for intradermal implantation, CRM Dx, an injectable implant for tissue augmentation, and CRM Dex, an injectable implant for tissue regeneration.

Intense Age Defence is a treatment from Ellipse for helping to prevent the signs of premature ageing and to rejuvenate the complexion. The treatment is said to boost the natural collagen in the skin by up to 300%, reducing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles by using a photosensitiser spray and non-invasive intense pulsed light (IPL).
     The treatment begins with an application of Intense Photospray, containing an active ingredient with a red pigment to prepare the skin for the absorption of light.
     Passes of low-energy Ellipse IPL over the face cause a reaction with the spray, triggering a natural cellular response, causing an increase in the skin’s production of collagen, claims Ellipse. Three treatments of Intense Age Defence are recommended over three weeks and will cause no pain, scarring or lasting side-effects, Ellipse says.
A hydrating sunscreen with an SPF30 and a day cream with an SPF15 complements the light-based treatments.

Juvédem Ultra is a range of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers that use Lidocaine to reduce discomfort during injection. One study of 60 patients shows 81% felt little to no discomfort. Ultra’s 3d hyaluronic acid matrix provides healthcare professionals with high precision, says its distributor, Allergan UK.
     Juvéderm Ultra 2 is recommended for mid- to superficial dermis, for superficial wrinkles and for lip definition. Juvéderm 3, a thicker gel, allows more versatility in contouring and volumising, facial lines and naso-labial folds, filling deeper wrinkles and enhancing lip volume. Juvéderm Ultra 4, the thickest formulation, is recommended for volumising and correction of deep wrinkles and for facial contouring, including lip volume.

Lipo M6 Endermologie is LPG’s latest cellulite and body-shaping system. It uses the same independent, motorised roller technology as the company’s Endermologie Keymodule 2 but is half the size and price.
     The Lipo M6 has four treatment programmes for sculpting, contouring, firming and draining the body. LPG claims that, by using the machine’s four navigation key LCD screen interfaces, therapists can select specific Lipomassage treatments to reduce the appearance of cellulite and re-sculpt the body. A course of six 35-minute treatments are recommended for optimum results.

A natural stance towards skin-care is favoured by Lumos, which specialises in products without additives, solvents, stabilisers or preservatives.
     Lumos One combines three medical grade ingredients—soluble collagen, vitamin B5 and glycerin—to restore firmness, elasticity and luminosity after four weeks’ treatment, the company claims. It says that the modified form of soluble collagen used has a smaller molecule and is more easily absorbed by the skin, while vitamin B5 aids in the collagen’s production.
     Lumos Two comprises only hyaluronic acid and purified water. By using the highest grade hyaluronic acid available without prescription, the formulation is better able to penetrate the skin and lift the complexion, plumping up the skin, says Lumos. Both products can be used together.

Glamotox fills existing lines by increasing collagen production with the principal active ingredient of pomegranate ellagic tannin, which firms, tones and restores skin condition, says Rodial, its UK manufacturer.
     Other active ingredients are phospholipids, said to visibly plump up the skin, and vitamin C lipovectors that target hyperpigmentation and brighten the skin tone.
     Rodial claims that results are apparent in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, tightened, toned skin, restoring moisture to dehydrated skin, and repairing sun-damaged skin to achieve a younger appearance. Glamotox, recommended with Rodial’s A-list cleanser, should be used in the evening for a minimum of eight weeks to achieve the best results, says Rodial.

Syneron’s VelaShape reduces thigh circumference and the appearance of cellulite by using electro-optical synergy (Elos). The technology—a combination of bi-polar radio-frequency and infra-red light energy, with mechanical and vacuum tissue massage—shrinks fat cells and increases lymphatic drainage, claims Syneron, the manufacturer. The results are achieved, in part, due to targeted and controlled heating of the dermal and hypodermal tissue, with the massage smoothing the skin to optimise delivery.
     A course of four treatments is recommended by the manufacturer to achieve visible inch-loss, reduced fat and reshaping, and smoothing effects. There is no downtime, no side-effects and the treatment is virtually pain-free, says Syneron.
