CHAPTER 8: Two and a half years later
The past year—2004—has tested the skills of my
doctor, for I have had a crazy year that can be likened to a roller
coaster ride.
I received a letter that my high school's 35th reunion is scheduled
for October 2005. I was sick a great deal and I became a grandma.
Yes—a grandma.
To also put stress on this face, my husband, who is 12 years younger,
turned 40 and has not a dimple, wrinkle or flaw on his face.
He says it is from living the "life of the just". I say
it's just life and genetics.
So what can I tell you about this whole experience? Do your research
and talk to patients. Don't just look at website photos.
I had a wonderful experience doing it on my terms. I "treated"
myself to an air-conditioned room with cable and could never have
survived being around others staying at the b&b's. This I say
with all respect to these places, however, people heal at different
times and someone (me) would've been thinking, "Oh, my. I am
not doing as well as the others. Also you haven't lived until you
have seen "Forrest Gump" in Spanish: "Corra Forest
Corra!"
I am pleased with my face but need to have my nose done. The doctor
was good
enough to send me home, for I was anaemic and he cared more for
my safety than taking the money for another procedure.
I imagine that, just like you, I have a few things I wish were different.
But that's what a nip and tuck here and there will fix.
If I decide to go back, money is the issue. So, I am working with
the face he
has rejuvenated. Going out of the country alone didn't bother me,
becauase I was on a mission and no one could stop me. Thinking back,
it took lots of courage and a leap of faith. Money is always the
issue, but first the quality of this doctor's work
impressed me and talking to his patients was imperative.
Wherever you go: research, research and do more research. Ask questions.
Never be afraid to bother your doctor or staff for information.
Finally, I will let you be the judge if I look settled, refreshed
and better after another year. After all your support, I feel as
if you helped me heal and let me tell you my story. I also want
to thank Body Language for taking a chance and letting
me be your "Bridget Jones" sharing my diary.
